Hello Everyone hope you all doing great. Today we are going to discuss how to crack Tally Data Password where we have lost Data Password. I have been frequently asked from many of people to know the process of crack Tally data where they have lost it. I am sure if you are Tally user then surely want to know about it.

Before proceeding further we need to understand Tally Data structure & Data Security Type in Tally.

 First of all let us discuss about Security Password Type in Tally. There are 2 types of Data security available in Tally as follow :
1. Tally Vault Password : Where Tally data can be kept in encrypted format and recovery of data after loosing password is nearly impossible to recover. In such method name of company and other does not reflect in list company in Tally where as it reflect as ********* (Stars).

Please Note : If you are using such vault password in Tally the it is suggestable to note down the password somewhere in case of loosing data. If such cases occurs where you have lost it completely then please contact Tally Expert where chances is nearly impossible to recover it.

 2. Tally Security Feature (Normal User Login & Password) : This is second Secuirty method available in Tally which is most common and being used by 99% Tally user. This method has been further classified into two layer :
  • Admin Login : This admin login is main controller of Data which can be set at time of creation of company.In case of password has been lost then recovery can be done in different way which we learn in this article.

  • User Login & Password : Main Admin controller of Data can assign sub user and Password of Tally who can login with their credential. 

Now let us understand the Tally Data Structure type : All the user login and password created stored under file name called Company.900 in data folder. For more details on data structure please check my blogs on Tally Data structure.

 Now Lets Start with main content :

 Password Recovery of Sub user login : In case of sub user has lost his or her user login then it can be recovered by main admin login details as below
Login Company with Main Admin login>>Press ALT+F3 Company Info>>  Security Control>> User and Password >> Change the password of mentioned user.

Password Recovery of main Admin User : In case of Tally user has missed or lost his or her main admin login and can not access Tally Data then what can be done just check out few possibilities and scenario.

 Scenario 1 : In case main admin login is lost but sub user login is available with him or her.
E.g : Mr Rohan who is admin of Tally Data is not able to access Tally data with admin login after so many efforts but while he is trying to open Tally Data with his/her junior login then easily able to access it but major activity can not be performed with junior’s login the what can be done.

 Lets Check out multiple solution :-
1. Using Password Recovery Tool : Password can be recover with Password recovery tool. Password recovery tool you need to get it from Tally Service Provider or can contact me for the same.
You just need to add tool in Tally in TDL Configuration feature. After adding tool login company data with sub user login id check out Gateway of Tally you will find a new option as Password click on password it will show main id login and password in front of you.
(Please Note that this password recovery tool will work only in Tally Release 4.93 and below)

 2. Using Data Backup File : In case if you are sure about main admin login but its not working now and if you have backup of Data with old admin login password then just follow the below process
Open old Backup Data folder Copy a file name as Company.900>> Open current Tally Data folder>> Paste the file you have copied from old backup>> Now open Tally (Do Not login Data in Tally)>> Press CTL+ALT+R (Rewrite Process)>> After completing rewrite login your data with old admin login>> It will allow you to access the Data.

 Please Note : Make sure you have taken Data Backup before following above steps. This will work only when you remember admin login details of old Backup Data.

 Positive Points of this method : This method will help you to access your data with loosing other details such as company name, other user login IDs etc. 
Negative Points : Very few times it happens where few of entries get deleted from Tally so please check your Data before using it Live

 3. In case of No Data Backup or nothing :
This is most common and this is major part of this article.
In case if you do not have any backup or nothing and want to want to recover your Data Password then follow this below steps :
  1. Create a New Company with Same Name of your data by putting some suffix or prefix to name.
  2. While creating New company select financial year carefully. E.g if your main Data FY start with 2017 to 2019 then you need to mention financial year begin with Apr-2017. You may keep login if or password for new company but it is not compulsory.
  3. Once you have logged in New Company pass dummy entries in Tally dated on 31st March 2018 & 31st March 2019 (Last date of each financial year) 
  4. Now in new company Press F11>> Enable Accounting feature / Inventory Feature / Tax Feature you remember (In case if you do not remember what were those feature then enable all the option in each feature) 
  5. Now Close Shut the company and open Data folder of Newly created company>> Copy the file name called as Company.900  
  6. Once you copied the file open the Data folder of Main data for which you have lost the password >> Paste the Copied file from new company>>It will ask to override>>Click to override (Please make sure you have taken data backup of Main Data before this) 
  7. Now restart Tally>> Do Not login company in Tally>> While you see select company list >> It will reflect two company with same name (same name of newly created company)
  8. Now press CTL+ALT+R>>Select Company Main Old Data (Identify the old data with data folder Number) Rewrite Yes>> Backup No>>After Completing Rewrite>> Check out the (It may ask user login and password in case if you have kept id and password for newly created company) 
  9. In case after login data it shows some error the follow the Zero Rewrite (To know please see my other blog on Data error and solution)
Negative Points : In this method you need to reconfigure & re-enter user login id & Password along with company name, address and other options.

Bonus Point : In case of Tally has been login with some user name but you are not sure who has logged in Data you can easily find it who has login the data. Just follow 
Come to gateway of Tally>> Click CTN+N (Calculator Pannel) >> Type “Who am I” >> Calculator Panels will show the user name and you can easily find the name.
