Before Moving to Tally Prime from Tally.ERP9

Dear all,

             You must be aware that there is lot of buzz going on related Tally Prime new version of Tally.ERP9 over different social media like FB, Insta, YT etc. This is version of Tally is going to be update version of Tally.ERP9 with advance functionality and mechanism. This is updated version really looks goods and prominent in long run of business. This will surely enable user for smooth functioning on Tally.



            You must be getting message, calls, emails from your Tally partner, vendors to renew your TSS and updating your  module etc. They are pushing everyone and marketing this product as this for them new opportunity of business and which is correct. They should always keep you updated but most of vendor are not sharing those information which is must be informed to end Tally User.

I have list down some of points which you should think before moving Tally Prime 

Data Migration :- 

It is one of important Task of moving to Tally Prime. Being Tally technical person I have faced many time whenever Tally comes with new version user face issue related to data migration.  Before directly shifting to Tally Prime first migrate your backup data in Tally Prime version and verify all the reports and working function. If all seems ok then you should shift. Do not shift directly to Tally Prime.

TSS Renewal :-

You must be getting call or message to renew your TSS (Tally Software Service) so that you can update to Tally Prime. If your TSS is expired then it is mandatory to renew before moving hence you need to spend money for the same. Before renewing the same install demo and educational version of Tally Prime on your system and checkout the functionality if it seems all ok then you should shift to new version.

Customization Module :-

1-      If you are using any module or customization then definitely that wont work in Tally Prime and you need to update the same accordingly which will surely add expenses on your updation.

       Working Functionality in Tally :- 

        Major configuration settings related to F12, F11, masters, vouchers, GST etc is changed from current version hence you need to update yourself before moving to Tally Prime. If you are not aware of updated functioning then this will lead downtime.  

  



        Burden to your Pocket :-

        There will be several hidden cost which you may not be aware or updated by your vendor which will create burden on your bedget and pocket. This expenses would be as follow

  • Renewal charges of TSS = SU – Approx 4500/-  MU Approx 12500/- yearly
  • Version Updation Service Charges = Approx 5000/- (This may be free from some vendor)
  • Annual Support Service Contract = Approx 15000/-
  • Training & Guidence on New version = Approx 7000/- (This may be free from some vendor)
  • Customization/Module Update Charges = Approx 10000/- (This may vary depend of module)
On an average on SU license user may pay 10000/- & MU License holder may pay approx. 20 to 25K
(Note :- Above cost is estimation, there may be no charges in some case but depend on vendor to vendor)

Peace of Mind? 
Once you have updated new version without test and trial then you should forget about your peace of mind. You need to be in touch with your vendor on daily basis for different types off issues and quires. Hence don’t run to update your Tally just hold wait and watch and let some time to pass and check review from others.



What Should You do?

Before moving to Tally Prime just note down following steps

  •         If your vendor instating to update then first confirm all charges as mentioned above if any hidden charges. Do not run to update. (Tally Kahi jayega nahi wahi rahega : 😛😛)
  •        Do not renew TSS directly, first install demo version of Tally Prime, migrate your backup data into Prime. Verify all your reports, record few transaction and understand the functionality in detail in next 3 to 4 days. If all ok then renew and update. (Once data migrate then moving back wont be possible)
  •        If you are using any customization module then ask vendor first to update and test the same. Once module migrated then only move to new version. (There may be case when you have updated to Prime and you missed to ask about customization then moving back wont be any option and at that moment vendor may ask higher amount as compare to normal rate)
  •       Before migration data proper backup of your Tally Data.
  •       Do not depend on customer support service because they will be getting continuous call and your work will be stuck. (Don’t run wait for some week to pass)
  •       Do not take Annual Support Service if not needed. There may be some vendor who will combine annual support service charges along with this update.

(High Note :- First Install Trial Version for One Week on your system, Migrate your backup data, Test your Customization Module along with Data, if all ok then move to Tally Prime)

Be Aware and Be Proactive, your smart questions & queries from vendor may save your valuable time, efforts and money.

Conclusion Note :- Tally Prime is good initiative from Tally solutions to update their software which is really good in long run. This post is not against to anyone but just aware Tally user as there are high chances of misunderstanding between partner and user. Being Tally User they should think wisely and select correct vendor or support partner who can answer all above question)
